Emergency Clearance Request for AARO Contact Form
In late September Defense sent an urgent request to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) seeking emergency clearance for a new information collection: the AARO Contact Form for Authorized Reporting. S. government employees, service members, and contractors to voluntarily provide contact information and report firsthand knowledge of government programs or activities related to Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP).
The request, made under the Paperwork Reduction Act's emergency processing provisions, cited an overdue statutory deadline and the criticality of the information to AARO's mission. The Deputy Secretary determined that AARO must begin collecting this information no later than October 31, 2023, making it impracticable to consult with the public in advance. The emergency clearance would last 180 days, during which DoD would work toward a regular clearance.
