DIA Memo Reveals AAWSAP Contract Review Purpose

The Defense Intelligence Each research report—spanning areas such as lift, propulsion, control, power generation, spatial/temporal translation, materials, structural configuration, signature reduction, human interface, human effects, and armament—was authored by world-class technical experts from industry and academia. The memo indicates that the first year of the contract yielded 26 extensive technical reports delivered to the DIA in fiscal year 2009. These reports were subject to review: eight were assessed by other authors listed in the memo, while five were evaluated by outside reviewers, including three research staff members at Sandia National Laboratories.

The program manager, whose name is redacted, reviewed all papers and concurred with the assessments. According to the memo, all reviews were positive, with some exceptionally so, even given the limitation that only unclassified research could be conducted in the first contract year.
